Baseless claims undermine Law College’s reputation, says Namal Rajapaksa

MP Namal Rajapaksa has denied allegations that he received preferential treatment during his law examinations at the Sri Lanka Law College 11 years ago. The complaint, reportedly lodged with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), claims irregularities in the examination process.

In a statement released today, Rajapaksa dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, emphasizing that they are intended to tarnish his reputation and undermine the credibility of Sri Lanka Law College.

“These claims are utterly baseless and severely undermine the credibility of the Sri Lanka Law College, which has always maintained a strong reputation for fairness. I categorically state there was no special treatment given to any candidate, including myself,” Rajapaksa said.

The MP alleged that such accusations are being used to divert public attention from issues plaguing the current government, including controversies surrounding the educational qualifications of several National People’s Power (NPP) MPs. He specifically pointed to the recent resignation of the Speaker of Parliament over alleged fake qualifications, calling it a “much more serious matter that deserves attention.”

“When the third highest-ranking official of the land resigns, it puts the government in shaky waters. This ongoing controversy is far more critical than baseless accusations against me,” Rajapaksa added.

Rajapaksa also expressed confidence that the inquiry would vindicate him, assuring his full cooperation with the CID.

“It is my firm belief that the truth will prevail, and the reputation of both myself and the Sri Lanka Law College will be upheld,” he concluded.  (Newswire)
