The body of the Dematagoda Railway Yard worker who was reported missing has been found, it was reported.
The missing worker’s body was recovered from an unprotected well on the premises of the Dematagoda Railway Yard today.
According to reports, the man who was employed as a technician at the Demtagoda Railway Yard was reported missing from 01.30 am today, while on duty.
Fellow employees had found his wallet, mobile phone, and slippers near a well in the premises, after which the Police had been informed.
However, a search operation conducted by the Police using Navy divers had failed to recover the missing worker’s body.
Alleging that the Railway authorities and Police had failed to provide sufficient support to find the missing worker, the workers at the Dematagoda Railway Yard withdrew from duties today.
The withdrawal from duties had resulted in the delay and cancellation of several trains severely inconveniencing the public, especially foreign tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
Under such circumstances, the Police together with Navy divers had recommenced their search operation once again today in another well connected to the previous well where the missing worker’s belongings had been found.
The Police and Navy divers recovered the body of the missing worker from the second unprotected well on the premises today. (Newswire)
