A family of five travelling in a car met with an accident this morning when their vehicle veered off the Hatton-Colombo main road and plunged down a 20-foot precipice near the Carolina Estate area in Watagoda.
The family, residents of Wellampitiya, had been on a trip to Nuwara Eliya when the accident occurred. The vehicle was being driven by the daughter, who was accompanied by her parents and her two children.
According to police, the driver had attempted to give way to an oncoming bus when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and topple down the slope.
Three family members sustained injuries and were admitted to the Watagoda Regional Hospital. Fortunately, the two children were unharmed in the incident.
Local authorities are conducting further investigations into the accident. (Newswire)
