Chikungunya treatment risky for dengue patients: health warning

Sri Lankan health authorities have raised serious concerns over the increasing spread of both chikungunya and dengue fever, as the monsoon season intensifies mosquito breeding.

As both diseases are transmitted by the same mosquito, health officials say this overlap poses a major threat to public health. The rise in mosquito numbers due to heavy rains has created ideal conditions for the rapid spread of both viruses across the country.

In a further warning, authorities noted that treatment for chikungunya could be life-threatening if mistakenly given to a dengue patient. They stressed the importance of proper medical diagnosis, especially for those experiencing persistent fever and related symptoms.

The public is strongly urged to seek immediate medical attention rather than self-medicating, to ensure timely and accurate treatment. (NewsWire)
