A stock of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”) worth approximately Rs. 73.64 million, hidden inside a packet of rice within his travel bag, was intercepted by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) as a passenger attempted to leave the Katunayake Airport. The passenger and two others who arrived at the airport to pick him up were arrested.
The passenger, a 51-year-old businessman from Gothatuwa, owns a poultry farm. He had concealed 5.026 kilograms of “ice” in his travel bag inside a rice packet when he arrived at the Katunayake Airport.
The two others taken into custody were a 36-year-old taxi driver from Weboda and his assistant, a 33-year-old woman from Panadura, Wadduwa. (NewsWire)
