Court Murder Shooter : Police reveals details of payments

The shooter involved in the killing of Ganemulla Sanjeewa was promised Rs 15 million for the murder by an underworld gang leader but was only paid Rs 200,000, according to police.

Police Media Spokesperson and Senior Police Officer Buddika Manthunge said authorities suspect the contractor may have tipped off police about the shooter’s whereabouts.

Speaking on Ada Derana, Manthunge said recent investigations show that contract killers often do not receive the full payment promised.

“Normally, they promise you Rs 1 million or 2 million, and most of these arrested shooters have not received that after committing the murder,” he said. “It’s a false promise, and they have to spend the rest of their lives in prison.”

Manthunge also revealed that the shooter in the Ganemulla case was recruited through Facebook. Criminals identified him as a former military personnel and lured him into the job by sending a message that read: “Don’t you have any work? You’re just hanging around, right? Shall we do a little job?”  (NewsWire)
