The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) has officially declared its support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election. The decision was made at the CWC’s National Council meeting, led by Minister Jeewan Thondaman.
The CWC cited President Wickremesinghe’s leadership since he assumed office in July 2022 as a key reason for their endorsement. Under his administration, Sri Lanka has witnessed economic stabilization following a period of significant financial turmoil. The CWC emphasized improvements such as the easing of shortages, price stabilization, and the restoration of international confidence in the country’s economy.
In addition to economic recovery, the CWC acknowledged President Wickremesinghe’s efforts to improve the living conditions and integration of the plantation Malaiyaha Tamil community. This commitment was highlighted as a significant factor in their decision to support his candidacy.
The CWC is currently preparing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with President Wickremesinghe, which will outline their specific requests and formalize their support. This decision marks a significant political development, reinforcing the alliance between the CWC and President Wickremesinghe ahead of the election.
