WEATHER FORECAST FOR 28 NOVEMBER 2024
Issued at 12.00 noon on 27 November 2024
The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Alert weather advisory for the land and deep and shallow sea areas of Sri Lanka, effective until 11.00 pm today, due to the influence of the Deep Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.
The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located to the east about 130 km from Trincomalee this morning, is likely to move closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka and intensify further into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours.
Under the influence of the system, cloudy skies will prevail over most parts of the island, while heavy showers and strong winds can be expected in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, North-western and Central provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Central, western and North-western provinces and the Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Kegalle districts.
Heavy showers above 150 mm are likely in some places and showers will occur at times elsewhere on the island too, with fairly heavy showers above 75 mm likely at some places. (Newswire)
