“Dayasiri Lied”: BMW sold for Rs. 21.8 mn, not under Rs. 5 mn

The North Central Provincial Council has firmly denied allegations made by Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekara regarding the sale of state vehicles, stating that his claims are false and defamatory.

Addressing the media today, council officials said the vehicles were disposed of through a proper tender process, not a secretive auction as alleged. They asserted that the BMW in question was sold for Rs. 21.8 million more than its government-assessed value, and that the full tender process brought in Rs. 123 million in revenue to the government.

Officials said they will initiate legal action against MP Jayasekara for spreading false information.

Earlier, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara accused the Council of selling 12 out of 22 luxury vehicles — including a BMW and three Toyota Prados — for just Rs. 28 million in total. He claimed the BMW used by a former Chief Minister and Governor was sold for less than Rs. 5 million, despite a market value of over Rs. 15 million. He alleged the tender lacked transparency and warned of more vehicles being prepared for sale under similarly questionable terms. (Newswire)
