Discussions held on National Media Policy

A special discussion has taken place involving both public and private media organisations to gather ideas and suggestions for the preparation of the National Media Policy, Minister of Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa said.

In a statement, Minister Jayatissa said that through the discussion held yesterday, the ministry hopes to take steps to draft a National Media Policy that will improve the professionalism of media organisations, journalists, and content creators.

He further said that the National Media Policy aims to create a safe and responsible environment where everyone can work for the greater good.

“At the discussion, we talked about the changes needed in the current draft, new ideas to be included, the importance of making the policy available in all three languages, and resolving any conflicts. We also discussed the role and goals of the Steering Committee, along with the views shared by media organisations,” the minister said.
