The President of the Vehicle Importers’ Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL), Prasad Manage, has expressed doubts about the credibility of certain claims regarding the timeline for vehicle imports.
Speaking to the media, he warned that such statements could mislead the public and questioned the fairness of making such claims without proper verification. He urged the government to take action against the dissemination of such information.
“We see several companies advertising vehicle prices subject to existing tax regulations and urging consumers to pre-order, implying restrictions are about to be lifted. I see these as attempts to mislead customers,” he added.
Manage further noted that such remarks might push consumers to sell their vehicles at lower prices out of unnecessary panic and advised against making hasty decisions.
“From what we understand, vehicle import restrictions will ease in stages—buses and lorries first, followed by commercial vehicles like vans and cabs. However, there is still no exact date for these changes,” he said.
He also emphasized that neither the government nor any responsible authority has made an official announcement regarding vehicle imports to date. (NewsWire)
