The Election Commission has confirmed that 35 presidential candidates will lose their security deposits.
According to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, this decision is due to the candidates not achieving the minimum requirement of 12.5% of the vote in the recently concluded presidential election.
Voter turnout for the 2024 presidential election was over 79%, a slight decrease from 83% in the 2019 election, as reported by the Commissioner General. (Newswire)
