A low-pressure area will likely form over the southwest Bay of Bengal today, due to which, atmospheric conditions will be favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka from tomorrow (13 Nov).
According to the Department of Meteorology, as such, several spells of showers will occur in the Northern Province today.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Eastern, Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and the Galle and Matara districts in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas during the evening or night.
Winds will be North-westerly or variable in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the sea areas around the island.
