A youth who had defrauded money via WhatsApp by posing as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) has been arrested and remanded until 09 January 2025.
The suspect who had financially defrauded several persons, including businessmen, was arrested by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The suspect, a resident of Borella, had utilised the name and image of a DIG to send messages via WhatsApp to various persons, financially defrauding them.
Investigations have revealed that the youth had called businessmen claiming to be a DIG and had defrauded money from them by threatening to initiate legal action over false complaints against them.
The arrested youth has been remanded until 09 January 2025 after being produced in court. (Newswire)
