The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has released the first results of the 2025 Local Government election.
The National People’s Power (NPP) has won the Tangalle Urban Council, securing nine seats. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) obtained five seats, while the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) won three. The United National Party (UNP) and the Sarvajana Balawegaya each secured one seat.
Although the NPP holds a plurality, it will need support from other parties to form a governing majority on the council. (Newswire)
