Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath met Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur today (July 10), on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
During the meeting, the two leaders held a productive discussion focused on strengthening long-standing bilateral ties and expanding cooperation, particularly in the area of labour mobility.
Minister Herath formally requested the Malaysian Prime Minister to consider increasing employment opportunities for Sri Lankan workers across various sectors in Malaysia.
Following the meeting, an official-level discussion has been scheduled with the Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs to explore modalities for enhancing opportunities for Sri Lankan migrant workers.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reiterated Malaysia’s continued friendship with Sri Lanka and expressed support for the country’s ongoing recovery efforts from its economic crisis. (Newswire)
