Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa & wife arrested

 

Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and his wife have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly misappropriating Rs. 6.1 million allocated for flood relief in 2014.

According to the Police Media Spokesperson, the funds were obtained through the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation under the pretense of providing assistance to flood victims in Bingiriya and Narammala. However, the funds were allegedly used for presidential election campaigning in 2015.

The arrests were made based on instructions from the Attorney General, and the suspects will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (23).
