Four individuals lost their lives in separate accidents on Saturday (July 27) according to reports from various areas in the country
An accident occurred in the Ratna Udagama area in Rathgama, Galle on Saturday afternoon. A cyclist lost control while descending a hill and collided with a wall. The 51-year-old resident of Bussa, Kadurupe, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to Karapitiya Hospital. The Rathgama police are conducting further investigations.
Later in the evening, the Polonnaruwa Police reported an accident involving a cyclist. The cyclist, traveling from Galkoriya junction towards Galkoriya, overturned on the road. The 68-year-old resident of Palugasdamana, Polonnaruwa, died after being taken to Polonnaruwa Hospital. Investigations by the Polonnaruwa police are ongoing.
In the Malabe area, a three-wheeler lost control on Hokandara Road and struck a woman waiting at a bus stop. The 70-year-old resident of Bope, Padukka, died after being admitted to Homagama Hospital. The driver of the three-wheeler has been arrested, and the Malabe police are continuing their investigation.
Meanwhile, a fatal collision was reported in the morning at the C.T.B junction on the Ja-Ela Minuwangoda road. A van traveling towards Minuwangoda from Ja-Ela collided with a cyclist. The 47-year-old cyclist, a resident of Ja-Ela, died at the scene. The accident was attributed to the van driver falling asleep. The driver has been arrested, and the Ja-Ela police are investigating the incident. (NewsWire)
