Gold-plated T-56 incident: Duminda Dissanayake remanded

Former Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake has been remanded until 29 May 2025 by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated firearm at an apartment complex in Havelock Town.

The former minister was arrested on Friday while at a luxury apartment complex in Thimbirigasyaya, Colombo. According to Police, his arrest is linked to the recent recovery of a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle at the Havelock City housing complex in Wellawatte.

The weapon was found earlier this week, following which two women, aged 40 and 68, were arrested on Tuesday. Investigations into the rifle were handed over to the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) on Thursday, 22 May. (NewsWire)
