Govt has no plans to regulate attire over security concerns : Minister

The government has not made any decision regarding attire considered a potential threat to national security, Minister Nalinda Jayathissa said.

Speaking at the Cabinet media briefing, Jayathissa responded to a journalist’s question on whether certain clothing could pose security risks.

“So far, security agencies, including the Police, have not reported that any attire poses a threat to security. We are not prepared to impose regulations that undermine a person’s cultural identity,” he said.

Jayathissa added that such a decision would only be considered if security agencies reported that specific attire was being used for activities threatening national security.
