Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive national policy on early childhood education and development, applicable to both the central and provincial governments.
Speaking at an event held at the Ministry of Education under her leadership, she highlighted the importance of formulating the policy within a legal framework to ensure uniformity across all regions.
Deputy Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Dr. Namal Sudarshana, attended the event on behalf of the ministry.
The Prime Minister noted that various early childhood education institutions operate differently across the country. She stressed the need for a unified approach, directing officials to develop a single policy document in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training.
She also instructed officials to prepare the policy as a joint statement between the two ministries and ensure it is legally approved for effective implementation.
The initiative aims to establish a consistent and structured approach to early childhood education, ensuring equal access and development opportunities for all children nationwide.
