Grandpass shooting : Police suspect orchestrated murder

The two individuals killed in the shooting incident at Wadullawatte in Grandpass, Colombo, have been identified as ‘Grandpass Kudu Suneetha’ and her assistant, both allegedly involved in a large-scale drug racket, Police said.

The duo were gunned down around 5.50 p.m. on Thursday while they were traveling in a three-wheeler. The two unidentified gunmen had fled the scene immediately, Police revealed.

The woman had succumbed to her injuries this morning (26) at Colombo National Hospital, while the driver died at the scene.

Police reported that the woman, also known as K. Suneetha, had been involved in a large-scale drug operation and had been evading capture since the start of the “Yukthiya” anti-drug operation.

She had several pending court cases related to drug charges, Police said.

Her assistant, the three-wheeler driver was a 31-year-old resident of Kamburupitiya.

A motorcycle suspected to have been used by the gunmen was found abandoned in Orugodawatta, while the shooting had been carried out using a revolver, Police said.

Police suspect rival drug dealers had orchestrated the murder due to her interference in their activities. (Newswire)
