Minister Nalinda Jayathissa has refuted claims that the government had spent Rs. 7 million for the launch of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative.
“Rs. 7 million have not been spent on the Clean Sri Lanka inauguration as reported by some media outlets. Only an amount of Rs. 900,000 had been approved as payments, which has also not been paid yet,”
The Minister said that reports of a musician, lyricist or the website developers being paid exorbitant amounts were baseless and false.
“There were quotations called for this, as is the usual practice. However, the MP appears to have misunderstood the amounts mentioned in the quotations,” Jayathissa explained, noting that the quotations were ultimately rejected due to their high costs.
The government spokesperson emphasized that not a single rupee beyond the approved Rs. 900,000 has been spent on the inauguration, adding that the government has no intention of exceeding this amount.
The Minister made the statement in response to allegations by MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake yesterday, stating that the government had not adhered to the tender process and that a sum of Rs. 7 million had been allocated for the Clean Sri Lanka inauguration. (Newswire)
