National People’s Power Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has challenged President Ranil Wickremesinghe to a debate, assuring that all of Wickremesinghe’s recent questions will be addressed.
“We can’t address these serious issues by speaking on different stages. He asks a question in Welimada, and I respond in Anamaduwa — what’s the use of that? Let’s sit down together, where you can ask me questions, and I’ll do the same,” Dissanayake said addressing a NPP rally in Anamaduwa.
Dissanayake said that President Wickremesinghe recently referring to him as a friend is an attempt to curry favour with their party. “We will not fall for these,” Dissanayake said.
“He has also been asking me to respond to some questions. Before that I want to ask him a few questions,” Dissanayake said, adding that serious questions will be answered only if Wickremesinghe manages to answer a few simple questions first.
“The first question is whether he truly called the Rajapaksas thieves — was that genuine or just false claims? Meanwhile, his classmate Dinesh Gunawardena called Wickremesinghe a thief — was that true or another fabrication?” Dissanayake questioned, adding that these were simple questions that can be answered by Wickremesinghe easily.
Dissanayake said that a clarification was needed over the two parties accusing each other of thievery, before he can answer any questions.
“Presidential Advisors have been appointed at the expense of the state. One such advisor is Akila Viraj. Ranil can answer this one question to the country, what was an advice that you sought from Akila Viraj? What is the advice you got from Sagala?” Dissanayake questioned. (Newswire)
