A low-pressure area will likely form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal tomorrow (23 Nov), which will likely intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the subsequent 2 days.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the system may intensify further and move near the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka.
Therefore, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and Matale district today, while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere on the island during the evening or night.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and the Matale district.
Misty conditions can be expected in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
