“I alone save about Rs. 5 million a month for the state” – Justice Minister

Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara has said that he alone is saving about Rs. 5 million per month by ending corruption and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

“I’m not bragging about this, as all our ministers do the same as I do. I’m eligible for three backup vehicles, around 15 STF personnel for protection, and three police bikes for a motorcade,” he said, addressing a gathering in Colombo, organized in view of the upcoming local government elections.

“We don’t need this protection as we are not afraid to visit our constituencies, but they (the opposition) need it because they are scared,” he added.

“A minister is entitled to a 20-member personal staff, but I only have nine. I alone save at least Rs. 5 million per month for the government by reducing these unnecessary expenses,” the Justice Minister further said.

“This is just one person — our entire team operates this way. We didn’t take MP vehicle permits or stay in official residences, burdening the taxpayers,” he noted. (NewsWire)
