President Ranil Wickremesinghe must accept the interim injunction order issued by the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said in Parliament.
The appointment of the IGP was not within the applicable provisions of the Constitution, Premadasa said citing the court ruling, which is why the IGP has been restrained from exercising the powers, functions and responsibilities of his office.
“The President cannot run away from this problem. He is still the President. He cannot do away with his responsibilities just because he is a Presidential election candidate. If he cannot do this, ask the President to resign,” the Opposition Leader said. (Newswire)
