Speaking at a gathering during his visit to Jaffna, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reiterated his government’s commitment to changing the political culture of the country.
“Politics in our country has always been above the public. Leaders were not close to the people and wasted a lot of public money. We are a government that stopped this,” he said.
The President was particularly critical of the presidential mansions built around the country, which he had previously stated would be evaluated for productive use.
He added that the same would be considered for the presidential palace built in Kankesanthurai.
“There is one built in Kankesanthurai. Do we need one here? Do the people need one? I don’t. I’ve instructed the governor and the district secretary to propose a project for which it can be utilized,” he said.
Sharing a lighthearted comment, the President likened the presidential mansions around the country to South Indian actor Kamal Haasan’s popular movie ‘Dasavathaaram’
“It’s like the Kamal Haasan movie Dasavathaaram—having separate mansions for each of the President’s characters,” he remarked. (NewsWire)
