Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Hadunneththi, has expressed concerns about the challenges he faces in fulfilling his role of fostering industrial growth and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at an event, the minister stated that instead of focusing on his primary responsibilities, he has been forced to act as a trader, dealing with various unrelated issues throughout the day.
“As the Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, my role has turned into selling things from 6 o’clock in the morning until midnight—essentially working as a trader,” he said, speaking at an event.
The minister detailed his daily challenges, including addressing price and salary concerns from Sewanagala and Pelawatta, delays in salt imports, coconut shortages and high prices, and issues from the automobile industry regarding the potential impact of relaxing the vehicle import ban.
“How can we develop entrepreneurship this way? It is not the role of the Ministry of Industries to engage in business. Our responsibility is to provide the necessary support to businesses and entrepreneurs,” he further said.
