The Fire Department has launched a preliminary investigation into two fires at the ‘Krrish’ building, the tallest structure in Colombo, attributing the incidents to the unsafe use of gas cutters.
According to initial findings, the fires were likely caused by gas cutters being used to remove iron structures within the building. Authorities have since advised against this practice to prevent further incidents.
A forensic examination report has been requested as part of the investigation.
The first fire broke out on the 35th floor on Feb. 6, followed by another on the 24th floor on Feb. 7. The Fire Department deployed a total of six fire trucks—three for each incident—to extinguish the flames.
Security measures at the site have been increased, with 20 police officers now stationed at the building. (NewsWire)
