The deadline to submit names of elected members from the local government elections to the Election Commission expired at midnight on May 30. The Commission is expected to publish the gazette listing the elected members today.
Under a February 17 gazette by the Minister of Public Administration, the term of local government bodies will begin on June 2, 2025. Both elected and nominated members must be gazetted before this date.
After publishing the members’ names, the Commission will also gazette the Chairman and Deputy Chairman for each body, nominated by the party that secured at least 50% of the vote. (Newswire)
