A 49-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly harassing multiple women by sending obscene photos, sexually explicit content, and voice recordings via WhatsApp, police said.
The suspect, a resident of Pandulagama, Anuradhapura, was taken into custody following investigations by the North Central Province Cyber Crimes Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Authorities launched the probe based on complaints received from victims.
Investigations revealed that the suspect obtained the phone numbers of the women when they visited a service center to repair their motorcycles. He then used the contact details to send inappropriate messages.
The suspect was arrested on Feb. 17 and presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court on Feb. 18. He has been remanded until Feb. 25.
