A man has died after being shot in the Akkara 20 area of Mirigama, police said.
According to reports, the shooting occurred when a security guard opened fire on an individual who had allegedly trespassed into a private durian estate with the intention of stealing fruit.
The injured individual was initially rushed to the Mirigama Hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed to his wounds.
