A tense situation was reported this morning (May 18) during a public gathering in Wellawatte that had been organised to commemorate Tamil civilians killed during the final stages of the war in Mullivaikkal in 2009.
The event was held near the beach opposite Alexandra Road, where participants gathered with white flowers in remembrance of those who died, were injured, or went missing during the final phase of the conflict.
Tensions arose when another group reportedly attempted to disrupt the gathering. Police were present at the scene and were seen attempting to disperse the group that had arrived in protest, according to to video shared online. (NewsWire)
