Meta officially introduces Instagram parental supervision app to Sri Lanka

Meta has officially introduced its parental supervision app for Instagram to Sri Lanka, aimed at providing parents with tools to monitor the Instagram accounts of children aged 13 to 16.

The official launch took place recently (21st) during a special event held at the Ministry Of Digital Economy, under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eranga Weeraratne. The event was also attended by Digital Economy Ministry Advisor Ms. Sumudu Rathnayake, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia Mr. Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Head of Public Policy for Central Asia and Sri Lanka Mr. Senura Abeywardena, Meta’s Associate Manager of Public Policy Ms. Tehara Punchihewa, and other participants.

During the event, special attention was drawn to several key areas relevant to Sri Lanka. Meta representatives emphasized the company’s expectation to support the implementation of Sri Lanka’s data protection process in the near future, while clarifying their stance on data protection enforcement. Both parties highlighted the importance of aligning with regulations.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Meta has globally invested USD 75 billion in the development of AI infrastructure, and that approximately 1 million users worldwide are currently experiencing Meta AI for free.

Additionally, the Meta team explained that this parental supervision app, now officially launched in Sri Lanka, is already operating successfully in 14 other.
