The National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) has launched an investigation into the recovery of several bird carcasses near the Beira Lake in Colombo.
Over the past week, dozens of ducks and geese have been found dead in the vicinity of the lake. Residents in the area claim that chemicals were added to the lake to reduce its odor, and bird deaths have been reported since then.
Preliminary findings by NARA revealed low oxygen levels in water samples collected from the lake. The agency stated that further tests would determine whether chemicals in the water contributed to the bird deaths. (NewsWire)
