The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training of Sri Lanka has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National University of Singapore (NUS), paving the way for enhanced academic cooperation and global education opportunities for Sri Lankan students.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Sri Lanka by Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa at the Higher Education Division, following cabinet approval granted on April 28, 2025. NUS President Prof. Thean Voon Yew signed the MoU on May 5, 2025, in Singapore.
Initial discussions began in February 2025, and both parties finalized the agreement in April. The MoU was officially facilitated through the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore.
The National University of Singapore is consistently ranked among the world’s top universities. Through this partnership, Sri Lankan students and institutions will benefit from postgraduate scholarships, academic exchange programs, collaborative undergraduate initiatives, and joint research projects in mutually agreed fields.
Further discussions are expected to take place soon to operationalize the agreement, which aligns with the government’s vision of developing a skilled and globally competitive human capital base. (Newswire)
