“No ministerial roles for those who destroyed the country” – Bimal

National People’s Power (NPP) member Bimal Rathnayake has emphasized that an NPP-led government has no intention of granting ministerial positions to individuals who previously served under the Rajapaksa or Wickremesinghe administrations, holding them accountable for contributing to the country’s decline.

Speaking at a public gathering in the North to rally support for the NPP, Rathnayake made it clear that such figures would have no place in their administration.

He pointed to former minister Douglas Devananda’s recent actions, describing them as misleading. According to Rathnayake, Devananda had requested a meeting with the President, which was granted as a courtesy to a former minister. However, Rathnayake alleged that Devananda used the opportunity to take a photo with the President and later circulated it on social media and in local media, giving the impression of the President’s endorsement.

Rathnayake stated that these actions were intended to mislead the public, even fabricating past achievements as Fisheries Minister. He further affirmed that neither he nor the President had any plans to appoint Devananda as a minister, expressing disappointment that such tactics were still being employed.

Rathnayake also criticized the former ministers who had aligned with the Rajapaksas, Wickremesinghe, and Sirisena, accusing them of damaging the North and the country as a whole. He noted that certain supporters of Sumanthiran and Sridharan were allegedly also exploiting vulnerable Tamil and Muslim communities for votes.

He concluded by affirming that an NPP government would appoint ministers solely from within its own ranks. (NewsWire)
