Despite the government opening Paddy Marketing Board storage facilities nationwide, no paddy had been provided as of yesterday (7), reports indicate.
Farmers have cited low prices and transportation costs as key reasons for withholding their harvest. Meanwhile, many are opting to sell to private mills, which offer higher prices.
On Thursday (5), the government announced guaranteed purchasing prices:
• Nadu paddy – Rs. 120 per kg
• Samba paddy – Rs. 125 per kg
• Keeri Samba paddy – Rs. 132 per kg
