The National People’s Power (NPP) has secured the chairmanship of the Beruwala Urban Council with the support of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), despite holding only three seats.
The SJB, which holds six seats, backed the NPP during today’s vote, while an independent group with seven seats failed to claim control. In return, the SJB was awarded the vice chairmanship, highlighting a rare instance of strategic cooperation between the two parties at the local level.
Meanwhile, the NPP also won the chairmanship of the Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha today, further boosting its presence in local government bodies. (Newswire)
