The Sri Lanka Police Headquarters has announced the implementation of a new digital system to issue instant traffic fines through the GovPay app, under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative.
This online mechanism enables traffic officers to immediately issue fines for violations and allows motorists to make payments via the GovPay platform without delay.
Once the payment is confirmed, the traffic officer will be able to release the detained driver’s license on the spot, eliminating the need for visits to police stations or long queues at government offices.
This system aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in traffic law enforcement, reduce corruption, and minimize inconvenience to the public.
Accordingly, from April 11 to April 30, 2025, the system will be piloted in the following 12 areas.
Kurunegala
Doratiyawa
Malsiripura
Gokaralla
Galewala
Dambulla
Madatugama
Maradankadawala
Kekirawa
Thirippane
Kavarakkulama
Anuradhapura
The Police Headquarters noted that this pilot phase will help identify any shortcomings and gather public feedback before expanding the system islandwide. (Newswire)
