Two suspects have been arrested by the Western Province North Crime Division for allegedly making death threats over the phone and attempting to extort Rs. 1 million from a woman.
The incident reportedly occurred on December 4 in the Dippitigoda area of Kelaniya. According to police, an overseas drug trafficker had allegedly coordinated the threats and extortion attempt through local intermediaries.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, the Western Province North Crime Division launched an investigation into the incident. The suspects were apprehended yesterday (22) in separate locations—Dalugama, Kiribathgoda, and Pattiya Junction, Peliyagoda.
The arrested individuals, aged 35 and 53, are residents of Kelaniya.
