K. Pushpakumar, also known as “Iniya Bharathi” and a close associate of former MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The former Eastern Provincial Council member was taken into custody over an alleged abduction incident that occurred in 2006. Police sources confirmed that the arrest was made following a renewed investigation into the case.
Pillayan, a former Member of Parliament and ex-Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, is also currently in remand custody. (Newswire)
