The Police constable who was captured on video allegedly attempting to plant cannabis in their motor vehicle during a traffic check in Kollupitiya has been interdicted, Lankadeepa newspaper reported.
The constable who had stopped a motorcar coming from the Grandpass area with several men inside the vehicle had attempted to plant cannabis in the vehicle, during the inspection, the passengers alleged.
A video of the scene recorded on a mobile phone had been posted on social media and widely circulated, prompting an investigation from the Police.
The video shows the youth accusing the police officer of attempting to place cannabis in the car to extort money.
The officer had been interdicted following an inquiry on charges of betel chewing while in uniform and improperly conducting a vehicle search without the presence of the driver or passengers.
The Kollupitiya Police are continuing further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
