The Sri Lanka Police have launched the 1997 tip line to encourage the public to share information regarding criminal activities, drug networks, and other illegal operations.
The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement and the public while ensuring the confidentiality of informants, Police said.
The hotline will allow citizens to report various offenses, including drug trafficking, organized crime, child abuse, threats to national security, misuse of state resources, financial fraud, bribery, and corruption. Additionally, people can also provide information about wanted suspects and missing persons.
The 1997 tip line will be managed by a dedicated team at the Police Headquarters, ensuring a prompt and secure response to all reports.
Meanwhile, those in the Northern and Eastern provinces can also use the 107 hotline for the same purpose.
Police urge the public to utilize these numbers responsibly to support crime prevention and enhance national security. (Newswire)
