Police lifeguards rescue German tourist from drowning

A German national was rescued from drowning at the Mirissa beach on the evening of July 12, according to the Kotavila Police Lifesaving Unit.

The 29-year-old tourist was caught in a strong current and was being dragged out to sea when he was spotted by on-duty officers. Acting swiftly, Police Sergeant Ajantha (59416) and Police Constable Kahawatta (105268) managed to pull the man to safety and administer first aid.

Authorities say he is now out of danger. (Newswire)
