The Police were prompted to shoot at a car in Malabe after the vehicle had failed to heed their orders to stop, leading to the seizure of over 02 kilos of Cannabis.
According to the Police, a couple had been arrested during the incident reported in the Hokandara area in Malabe last night.
During a raid conducted in the area, the Police had instructed the vehicle to stop for inspection, but the driver had failed to heed the order and had instead driven in reverse, prompting a Police officer to shoot at the tyres.
Following the shooting, the vehicle had crashed into a utility pole and had stopped.
Inspection of the vehicle by the Police officers found 01.8 kilos of cannabis hidden under the driver’s seat.
Further interrogation of the suspects had led to the officers finding another kilo of cannabis from the suspect’s residence.
The arrested suspects are a 30-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both residents of the Delgoda area in the Gampaha District. (Newswire)
