The Sri Lanka Police has warned the public of a fake letter being circulated on social media with the intention of financially defrauding the public.
Issuing a statement, the Police said the letter titled ‘CONVICTION’ in English bears the forged signature of the Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya and refers to the Police Cybercrimes Headquarters.
The Police further said that the letter, which bears false information, has been issued by a company identified as Cyber Crime Headquarters, Colombo, Sri Lanka, which does not exist.
The public has been warned that the information in the letter has not been issued by the Police Department, adding that the letter intends to financially defraud the public and cause inconvenience to them.
Urging the public not to fall victim to the false letter, the Police said stringent action will be taken against those involved in the fraud. (Newswire)
