Popular YouTuber/Blogger sues CID over his arrest in 2023 under the ICCPR Act

Popular Sri Lankan YouTuber/ Blogger Bruno Divakara has initiated legal action against the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over his arrest in 2023.

Bruno Divakara has filed the case under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and has sought compensation of Rs. 50 million over his wrongful arrest. 

Bruno Divakara, the owner of the YouTube channel ‘SL-Vlogs’,  was arrested by the CID in May 2023 in connection to the controversial stand-up comedy show of Nathasha Edirisooriya, who was accused of having made derogatory comments on Buddhism during her show. 

Bruno Divakara was then arrested for sharing video footage of the show on his YouTube channel, ‘SL-Vlogs’, which went viral on social media. He was later remanded.

He along with Nathasha Edirisooriya was, however, only released from the case related to allegedly making controversial statements on Buddhism in June 2024. (Newswire)
