The Department of Meteorology says rain is expected in several areas of Sri Lanka today, with fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm expected in some places.
Showers will occur at times in the Uva province and Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Hambantota and Matara districts. Several spells of showers may occur in the Northern and North Central provinces and the Trincomalee district.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere in the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm can be expected in some places in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Eastern slope of the central hills and the Northern, North-central, Eastern and North-western provinces and Matale, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Misty conditions can be expected in some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and the Galle district in the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Colombo via Batticaloa, Pottuvil, Hambantota and Galle.
Winds will be north-easterly and speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
